Women at War - Poster shoot

Well, no images to post just yet .. The exhibit aboard Intrepid to commememorate Women's Month won't be held until March, 2011.  But today I had the pleasure of photographing 10 wonderful, archival posters from World Wars I and II which feature women in the military.  With pointed messages, vibrant colors, and beautiful models, these posters are really works of art, every one of them.  Stay tuned 'til next year when I can post them to the blog.

Cool photo for a hot day

Ninety nine degrees here today, with humidity to spare.  So I shot a cool photo for a very hot late afternoon, a trick learned from the "master of exposure", Bryan Peterson.   I'm very pleased with my new Nikkor 70-200mm 2.8 VRII lens ... so crisp!  (Click on photo to enlarge).

Firefighter Appreciation on Intrepid

"Fire" and "heat" were the key words for this weekend's celebration of area Firefighters aboard Intrepid.  But high temps did not stop the crowds from enjoying numerous demonstrations and expressing support for New York's Bravest.  The newly commissioned fire boat, the Three Forty Three, in honor of the 343 Firefighters lost on 9/11, was open for tours after leading other fire boats up the Hudson River earlier in the day.  For story and gallery link to more photos, click here. Maine: The Way Life Should Be

Ah, such beautiful light up in Maine!  Here are some shots taken on Peaks Island, a 20-minute ferry ride from Portland.  Sunsets and sunrises can be spectacular up there ... These photos were all taken "as is" without filters or post-processing.  Peaks is great place to relax, unwind .. and take photos! (Click for larger versions).

Prince Harry, what a charmer!

Prince Harry is a true prince in every sense of the word and the pride of Great Britain.  He visited Intrepid to support wounded veterans from both the US and the UK who joined him on the flight deck.  He captivated everyone with his smile, his attentiveness, his manners, and his good graces. I was thrilled to meet him and photograph his visit.  Click here for story and more photos of the Prince's visit.

A quick trip back to Florence, Italy?

Not quite!  I duct taped a 6" statue of David to a second tripod set up in the high school field just before the sun went down.  With the UV filter off, the sun glare was removed.  By exposing for the sky, then focusing on David, a black silhouette was created.  Voila!  A very inexpensive and fun-to-do re-creation of our honeymoon in the Italian countryside!

27 Seconds Exhibit : The Apollo I Tragedy

Last night, I was honored to photograph the new exhibit at the Intrepid, "27 Seconds: The Apollo I Tragedy".  In addition to covering the exhibit, I had the pleasure of photographing the daughter and the nephew of Astronaut Pilot Roger Chaffee who perished aboard Apollo I with Commander Gus Grissom and Senior Pilot Ed White on January 27, 1967.  Click here for story and more photos. ....................................................................................................

Testing out my incredible, new Nikkor 70-200mm 2.8 VRII lens on our backyard birds.  Its sharp, fast, and heavy .. but worth its weight in gold. Bought a fabulous, new Nikon D300s at the same time, a good partnership!
