NY Council Navy League Reception for Officers and Commanders

Another wonderful event hosted by the New York Council of the Navy League.  This Reception for Officers and Commanders is held on the Friday evening of Fleet Week, at the prestigious New York Athletic Club.  I was privileged to shoot this event for the fourth time this year.  Here are some of the military and their admirers enjoying the evening.

Memorial Day Ceremony at Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

When it comes to military ceremonies, the Intrepid is tops.  Its always a pleasure to witness the unfurling of the 100' American flag on the Pier at the museum.  Here are some of my images from the day where our Military was truly honored.

Navy League, NY Council Reception for Officers & Commanders - Fleet Week

This wonderful Fleet Week event returned last night after a one year hiatus due to gov't cutbacks.  The Reception for Officers and Commanders, held at the prestigious New York Athletic Club on Columbus Circle, hosted dozens of military personnel for an evening of cocktails, hors d'ouerves and socializing.  It was an honor to be there among our distinguished service men and women.  Here are some of my photos:

The open air terrace offered another space in which to relax and socialize.

The ball room was filled to capacity with members of the military, spouses, friends and supporters.

The captains of each ship in New York harbor for Fleet Week were announced with a bosun's whistle and bell, in a traditional military ceremony.

Pearl Harbor Remembrance at Intrepid

Saturday, December 7th marked the 72nd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.  Intrepid, as always, presented a wonderful program to honor and recognize the four Pearl Harbor Survivors in attendance at the event.  It was held at the end of Intrepid's pier, under the wings of the Concorde on this blustery morning.  Here are some of the images from the Remembrance.  (Click on any photo to enlarge)

Intrepid President Susan Marenoff-Zausner gave the opening remarks.

The four local survivors of Pearl Harbor stood and saluted the presentation of the Colors.

Pearl Harbor survivor Clark Simmons addressed the crowd.

The Remembrance was open to the public and was well attended.

As a sign of respect for those lost, the survivors and others gathered at the end of the pier to toss a wreath into the Hudson.

Following the Ceremony, two former Intrepid crew members had a surprise reunion .. An avenger pilot (seated) met up with one of the sailors, Ray Stone.  Both were on deck at the time of one of the Kamikaze attacks.

Memorial Day on Intrepid - May 27, 2013

Memorial Day weather was warm and comfortable for the hundreds of people who attended the annual Memorial Day Ceremony on the Pier.  Fleet Week was canceled this year due to the Government Sequester, therefore there were fewer military there to be honored.  But they were uppermost in all minds as wreaths were tossed overboard, taps played, rifles shot, and prayers said for those who were lost in defense of freedom.  Here are some of the photos .. Brave Wounded Warrior

On Friday, I had the honor of photographing four of our courageous Wounded Warriors for the Fallen Heroes Fund while they filmed a Public Service Announcement.  The shoot was held at AOL Studios in NYC.  Each of these servicemen suffered profound physical, personal and mental losses in defense of our country.  Here is one of the heartbreaking images of the day.  Donations to assist these brave veterans may be made by clicking this link.
