Former NYC Mayor Ed Koch, rest in peace

Rest in Peace, Mayor Koch.  When I photographed him at the Veterans Day Parade two months ago, he briefly napped during the ceremonies but was alert and waving as he drove in the dignitaries' car up Broadway, seated with Former Mayor David Dinkins and Congressman Charlie Rangel.

He was quite a character, a true New Yorker who loved the City, serving as Mayor from 1978 - 1989.  Click here to read more about his life.

Brave Wounded Warrior

On Friday, I had the honor of photographing four of our courageous Wounded Warriors for the Fallen Heroes Fund while they filmed a Public Service Announcement.  The shoot was held at AOL Studios in NYC.  Each of these servicemen suffered profound physical, personal and mental losses in defense of our country.  Here is one of the heartbreaking images of the day.  Donations to assist these brave veterans may be made by clicking this link.

Veterans Day Parade NYC 2012 Fifth Avenue

Today was a day to honor our Veterans and as usual, New York City pulled out all the stops and gave the Veterans a wonderful tribute.  Hundreds and hundreds of soldiers, sailors and airmen took to the streets, marching in formation, accompanied by marching bands and various groups of their supporters.  The weather was perfect .. It was a welcome and heartfelt tribute in the wake of Hurricane Sandy just two weeks ago.

Veterans Day Observance in Teaneck

Friday morning, I was asked by Teaneck Patch to cover their Veterans Day Observance at the Municipal Green.  Borough officials, Police and Honor Guard, Fire Fighters, American Legion, Sons of American Legion and many local Veterans and residents turned out to recognize the many sacrifices made for our freedoms, here and abroad, past and present.

The Ceremony was conducted on a lovely Fall morning, trees in full bloom.

Many veterans from various conflicts attended the Observance including my husband Eric, a 20-year Air Force veteran.

Veterans Day at Intrepid

The Intrepid has a long history of honoring the veterans who served aboard her during World War II and in Vietnam.  Many of them returned today for special events including the landing and take-off of a U.S. Air Force HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter and the raising of funds to support the Fisher Foundation Fallen Heroes Fund.

Dave Cummings, above, a huge fan of basketball, raised funds for the Fallen Heroes Fund in his quest to shoot one million foul shots.  With a basketball hoop on deck, he reached the half-way mark, 500,000 baskets, in front of an appreciative audience of veterans and their families.  To learn more or to make a contribution, click here for the Hoops for Heroes website.
