Portraits - Mr. Richard Hahn, former mayor of Glen Rock

This weekend, I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing the former Mayor of Glen Rock, Richard Hahn, for the town’s Patch.com local news website. At age 84, Mr. Hahn is very active in his church and a fan of the opera.  He is the proud father of 8 children (7 daughters!) and 12 grandchildren.

Municipal Government at Work

Last night was my first assignment for a new, online community news provider launched by America Online, called Patch.com.  Run by independent, experienced, community journalists, Patch.com is growing quickly.  AOL has been launching Patch websites in communities throughout the U.S.  Set up much like an interactive multimedia blog, each Patch site is maintained on a daily basis by a dedicated journalist-editor.  Comments from the public are encouraged.

I covered the Glen Rock Council’s Reorganization meeting, chaired by Mayor John van Keuren and his 9 Council members with dozens of area residents in attendance.

I started in photography as a photojournalist covering 13 towns, under Bergen News editor Eleanor Marra back in 1979.  This "small-town-feel" assignment brought me back to my roots.

Christmas Blizzard and White Throated Sparrow

It's Sunday morning after Christmas and we awoke to a beautiful scene of snow, snow everywhere.  The blizzard came through with a vengeance.  The wind is still howling and none of the neighbors have begun the daunting task of digging out.  This one's gonna take a while!

 

A White Throated Sparrow at our feeder, which we are very glad to have filled at the start of the storm.  We have many customers out there this morning!

Americade Motorcycle Rally photo winner

Along with Christmas greetings from friends, the mailman brought another nice surprise this afternoon ... A handsome check for the publication of two of my photos from Americade, taken this summer.  They are published on page 42 of the Americade Times which is available online, and will be available in hard copy to the hundreds of participants at the June 7-11, 2011 Motorcycle Rally in Lake George, NY.  To see the 2011 Americade Times Magazine, click here.

My "balloon glow" photo is the only full-page photo in the 52-page magazine, with the exception of the cover page. It was taken with my Nikon D300s on a tripod at f/3.5 for 4 seconds at ISO 3200.

The motorcycle light parade judging photo, published at the lower left of the page, was also taken with my D300s on a tripod, but at f/5.0 for .8 secs at ISO 2500.

 

Here's Eric and "Big Bee", our Pearl Yellow Honda Goldwing Motortrike conversion, in good company in a field of bikes at Americade.  (She's under a fancy new rain cover which was much-needed for the 3 days we were up there .. Think sun for 2011!)

Paul Teutul, Sr. & Orange County Choppers benefit with Bic

Paul Teutul, Sr. of OCC is shown here, giving a willing volunteer a haircut.  Bic donated $10,000 to the OCC Foundation, a charitable effort, and several brave men (and one woman) stepped up to have their heads, mustaches, beards (and armpits!) shaved.

Medieval Times Pageantry, Lyndhurst, NJ

Ah, we love this place! This was our third time here at the castle in Lyndhurst, New Jersey. Photos taken with my Nikon D300s and Nikkor 18-200 mm lens at ISO 3200.

Comedian Jim Breuer at Mount Olive Performing Arts Center

A funny, funny man.  He had us in stitches .. See him if you can!
